Adopting your Loved Pet

Hello to all who may be Adopting a pet soon. Sometimes it is so hard to know what to expect when you adopt a pet from a Rescue; and I know that the foster home of that pet always writes updates on their foster’s and you will get all the information. But the real problem is that when the pet comes to your home (a lot of times when the home visit is done) make’s it easier to bring the pet when you know that he/she will be staying. Anyway, remember that these animals come from all walks of life and coming to a strange home is very upsetting and they get confused. These wonderful little angels have taught me so much in a short time and no matter where they came from they all showed “Love” they have inside….makes me cry every time!
So let them look around, sniff around and let them come to you-they always do during the visit. Talk calming to them and before you know it they will be letting you pet them and come to you more and more. I keep the leash on them for a little while so that if there is a problem you can just step on the leash to stop them; instead of running to them and maybe scaring them. Taking them outside to look around, all of you if you have older children(12 years and up) I know that sometimes there are children that may be younger that really understand maybe because they grew up with animals; maybe they are younger yet and have the same education on dogs….but please make sure they understand that it is Very Important to be slow with the new pet and that don’t go running to them let them come to you!
During this time don’t try to feed them right away, take up any food that may be down ( if you have a pet all ready) this makes it easier for them and may stop any fighting that could happen. If there are
treats that came with them and the new home has a pet, give them both a treat see how they do…it is amazing to see how these little sweet hearts adjust to a new family they have so much love to give and they just want their own loving family.
There is so much more but for now this is a start.

I have been doing a lot of research on this and it is so Sad to find these wonderful pets being treated like dirt! I have read and seen pictures that have made me cry while looking and reading not good. I might have told you already why I became a member of Tiny Paws Dog Rescue Canada but, here it goes again…after going to an Event that had so many rescue’s and pet items there was a little dog there that I fell in love with…Little Meatball Picture shown below and I was crying.

This just did something to me because I realized how many pets are being given up and a lot of them for No Good Reason! I was with my sister at the time and she was all ready a member of TPDR, so that night I filled in the paper work and had my reference checks done and home visit…yes they make sure you are right and that your home is pet friendly and mine sure is I have 2 of my own. Far too many perfectly healthy, wonderful dogs are euthanized every day because their owners do not know that dog rescues exist and can help. For any number of reasons, an owner may need to find their dog a new home. In addition, there are many dogs that end up in shelters because they have never been adequately trained, suffer from separation anxiety or from treatable health issues. Our reward is finding a loving new home for a dog in need.
There are so many wonderful rescue’s out there looking for people like you no matter where you live. If you think you could do this, maybe not foster but Volunteer for events, make reference calls or maybe even be a Transport driver it all makes a big difference and helps these Awesome little Babies. Thank you
